Claire Novak | When Claire was a young girl, her father, Jimmy, disappeared from the house, claiming to have been visited by an angel. For the year that followed, Claire's mother attempted to care for them as best they could, and help her daughter understand her father's psychotic break. When he reappeared, for a short few hours they all thought they could put the past behind him; then demons attacked her family, seeking to capture her father, who had truly been an angel's vessel.
This started the series of events that led to Claire becoming possessed by an angel for the first time, for she too carried the blood needed to be a vessel. To fulfill his promise of protecting Jimmy's family he took Claire's form, and nearly kept it. Her father begged the angel to take him instead, and the angel acquiesced. However, there was still the matter of protecting the Novaks, and Castiel had many other things to attend to. However, he had made a Holy Vow, and Heaven was required to keep it. Amelia and Claire spent much time in danger from demons and other creatures, but the angels came again and again, possessing Claire's small form to battle the evil. She became nearly used to the sensation, despite the psychological and physical side effects.
Claire tried for several years to be normal, but after her permanent possession by the angel Ireul, gave up hope. She dropped out of school to maintain a safe home for her mother, and spends her time teaching herself about the demons that hunt her and the angels that use her.

Ireul | It was decided amongst the angels to anoint a single angel as the guardian of the Novaks. The chosen angel was Ireul, the Angel of Fear. Ireul took permanent residence in Claire's body, though he often lets her go about her own way when she is not in danger. He is fiercely devoted to his mission of protecting her and her mother, however, and will often show himself whenever things get even mildly tense between Claire or Ameilia and another.
Occasionally he has need to serve his Higher Purpose, for which he continues to use Claire's body. While he tries to keep her unconscious during these trips, Claire has built up a resistance and is often 'awake' for these missions. He very rarely is willing to leave Claire's body entirely.
As the Angel of Fear, Ireul is a powerful opponent for demons, for he feeds off the same fear they do, and is capable of inspiring it in them with a touch. Though he uses it on the battlefield as a weapon, he can also use it as a tool of healing; he dislikes seeing irrational fear in human beings, and will attempt to cure it where he can.
Ireul often comes into conflict with Claire because he does not often understand the way human emotions and thoughts work; he has no issue possessing her body mid-sentence and disappearing off on a mission of his own, or threatening those he feels are unhealthy for her. He can often be an overbearing guardian, and he does not comprehend her anger with him for it. | |
